Welcome to Therabeautic

I am Marina Aspinall, owner and therapist at Therabeautic. Here is a bit more about my personal and professional life. Please follow any links to answer any of your treatment and salon related questions.

The Therabeautic Way:

I finished secondary school in 1988 and went on to study a Higher National Diploma in Beauty Technology at Technicon Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. I completed my 3-year course in 1991 and started working at a local beauty salon. I was happy, but the travel bug had bitten and in 1996 I packed my bags, sold my car and left for England with nothing but a backpack and the fear of the unknown. I was like a fish out of water when I first arrived but soon adapted to the independent lifestyle and I grew up overnight.  What was supposed to be a two-year working holiday has changed into a business owner and mother of two and over 20 years of living abroad. This is home now.

During my time here, I have worked in many sectors of the beauty industry and I have gained a lifetime of knowledge and experience. I finally decided to go solo and Therabeautic opened its doors in 2000, working from a bedroom in my house. As my client base increased I got the confidence to expand and I moved the salon to the High Street. Business growth has been amazing and all the hours of planning, juggling life and worrying has paid off.

I have two children, and those with kids know that it is so crucial to find the family/business balance. My working hours pretty much revolve around my children and their activities and I am forever grateful that I can be a hands-on mum and to be able to watch my children grow up is such a privilege. Something that, having my own business, has allowed me to do. They are growing up fast and with this comes a bit more independence and more time for me to concentrate on the business.

Being a business owner and a therapist has its own challenges.

This is how I see it:

As a business owner I am constantly trying to market the business, be the brains behind the scenes and keep the business afloat.

As a therapist I am the face of the business. Being energetic, enthusiastic and motivated to do every treatment best I can. Education is key!! I have completed ongoing post graduate education at the International Dermal Institute, training with the worlds leading professional skin care brand, Dermalogica. I achieved Expert status in 2014 after completing a succession of specialist product, treatment and business workshops.  I have studied many different beauty brands and treatments. The latest string to my bow is Microblading. I completed my Microblading course in 2017 at Laura Kay London and I am loving the "brow game". Please visit my Microblading page for all the information.

So now it is full steam ahead and I am loving being in the Beauty industry more than ever. I enjoy seeing my clients every day, offering the best of me and all my treatment and industry knowledge. Please feel free to explore the website more and contact me for all your appointments and questions. All my recent work is also available on my Instagram and Facebook pages.

What is Microblading?

Microblading is a form of cosmetic tattooing performed with a very fine, state of the art, hand held tool dipped in the chosen pigment. It is designed to mimic the appearance of very fine hair on the brow area. A natural-looking approach to semi-permanent make-up that lasts between 12-18 months and can be used to fill gaps, enhance over-plucked brows or reconstruct the appearance of your brow entirely.

Before the procedure takes place, a full consultation is done, and a suitable brow shape and colour is chosen. Two further appointments are required. The first one involves designing the shape and taking some before pictures, after which the Microblading will be done. This appointment will be the longest, lasting between 2-3 hours. A second (re-touch) appointment is required between 4-8 weeks later and will only take approximately 1 hour. A re-touch is needed because different skins react differently to pigment, and the retention period may vary.

The treatment leaves you with a defined, realistic and fuller looking brow and there is no real downtime. Numbing cream is used so no real pain but maybe slight discomfort. The healing process and aftercare will be discussed in full on the day of your appointment.

A free, no-obligation consultation can be arranged, and a £50 non-refundable deposit is required when booking your Microblading treatment. See the Treatments page for Microblading prices and Consent Forms.

Any further questions welcome.

What is Advanced Electrolosys?

Many of us suffer with minor skin blemishes that can affect our confidence. These issues are much more common than many people would think, due to a combination of factors including ageing, UV Damage and certain health conditions.

Electrolysis has been used for more than 100 years to treat problems such as broken capillaries, spider naevi and warts. It has progressed dramatically with the ongoing development of modern technology and is a simple and safe technique. Electrolysis is used to successfully remove, visibly reduce and improve the appearance of unwanted skin blemishes, offering immediate and effective results.

How does it work?

Advanced Electrolysis is a treatment that uses a Thermolysis current and a very fine needle to either cauterise or lift away the superficial epidermis, depending on the type of blemish that is being treated.

What does the treatment feel like?

Electrolysis clients generally describe the treatment as mildly uncomfortable, with a warm stinging sensation which they find to be easily tolerable.

Consultation and Aftercare

A consultation is given before any advanced electrolysis treatment; this entails a short questionnaire about any health issues that may affect the treatment. We also diagnose the blemish and fully explain the treatment needed, how it will be done, the time it will take, and any aftercare required. This is so all our clients are fully informed about the procedure and feel comfortable and relaxed when they go ahead with the treatment.

We give all our clients an aftercare cream to take home and advise them on how to treat their skin for the following couple of weeks.  How many treatments will be needed, and how often these need to be carried out, will also be discussed.

Clients often ask what the down time is for the procedure. This does depend on the blemish you are having treated. Generally, allow two weeks after the treatment for swelling, redness and scabs/crusts to disappear, with results being more easily visible up to a month later. This can be discussed in detail at your consultation.
